Well Guy and I have been debating for about a week if we should reconsider our monthly approach and shoot for the Graphic novel approach.
I was wondering what you guys thought as fellow Ultimate Marvels I value your opinions. Here Are Some pros and cons I came up with.
Graphic Novel Pros
1.More Well developed Stories
2. Better Flowing Stories.
3. No pressuring time limit
4. Easier to write/illustrate not bound to page limit
5. Current Movies such as 300, 30 days of Night, sin city and more have come from graphic novels better movie chance because of the complete well developed story. Compared to monthly took 20 years for batman movie/tv show, 30 for super man over 10 for spider-man series.
6.Cheaper to Print.
7. No stories to fill that month that regulary wouldn't be up to standard.
Cons
1.No time limit less motivation to complete
2. Have to pay much more attention to the universes continuity (but this could lead to better developed and explained stories)
Monthly Comic Pros
1.More Loyal fan base getting book monthly
2. Time Limit Motivator.
3. Flowing Continuity
Cons
1. Comic Such as Spider-Man and Batman have taken years or decades to become movies while graphic novels if they're a hit can almost immediately become a movie
2. Stories dont flow as well with constant cuts in the middle of arcs and cliff hangers.
3. Bound by page limit and time limit
4. More Expensive to print.
Also leave your own pros/cons and suggestions. |

Well.... Graphic Novel would certainly be easier but an ongoing comic seems like a great idea too. When Graphic Novels are released, they're normally released before as a mini-series, or as part of an ongoing. So you wouldn't actually have the GN stories without the previous ongoing arc.
You should do ongoing IMO. _________________ PROUD MEMBER OF THE ULTIMATE MARVELS!!!!

I'm comparing to stories such as 300 and 30 days of night that were solely graphic novels not like marvel which takes their monthlys and puts them together into graphic novels
Thats what we're debating to do it one way or the other if we did monthly we would try to offer them as graphic novels after the arcs are finished |

Well, with Sin City, they're actually collections of individual issues. The only graphic novel was volume five: Family Values. Same goes for 300... _________________ Proud Member of The Ultimate Marvels!!

I think you could have more fun writing and illustrating a graphic novel. But it depends if want to continue the series in a way that would favor a ongoing monthly series. Like do you have a lot of stories to tell? Also doing a graphic novel won't make you hurry to finish the product so it would have greater quality. Thats my suggestion. _________________ Interpol Proud Member of the Ultimate Marvels

Well we've decided to go with a graphic novel at least for now. My guess our first story could reach and or surpass 300 pages outline is just 18 and it s incomplete |
