Okay, in my English class we all had to write a 6-8 paragraph essay on any fictional character of our choosing, so I did one on Moon Knight! I'm still waiting on my grade, but here it is:
Character Essay
MOON KNIGHT
Moon Knight is a fictional character created by Doug Monech for Marvel Comics. Moon Knight’s true name is Marc Spector. During Moon Knight’s publication many writers have wrote Moon Knight. The first writer of Moon Knight was the creator Doug Monech. The current writer is a crime novelist, Charlie Huston.
Marc Spector A.K.A. Moon Knight suffers from a multiple personality disorder. Besides Moon Knight, he has made other identities. Take for instance New York City cab driver Jake Lockley and multi-billionaire Steven Grant. As Marc Spector assumed these other roles, his personality, mood, and even his tastes started to change, just to suit the role he was playing. He actually became these other identities.
Marc Spector and his father never got along. They resented each other. When Marc Spector was a young man, he left the city he was born in Chicago, and went to New York. He then became a boxer, a U.S. Marine, and then a mercenary. He worked with two other ruthless killers in Egypt, one his close friend nicknamed “Frenchie” and the other his soon to be archenemy Raul Bushman.
The three heard about an archeological dig by an American, and they went to raid the tomb. They stopped in a small town, in the middle of the desert to inquire the tomb’s location, from some local townsfolk. For no apparent reason, other than to make people fear him, Bushman lined up all the townsfolk and had his troops shoot and kill them in cold blood. This caused Marc Spector to get crazy with rage and fight Bushman. Bushman won the duel and threw him in the middle of the desert, to suffer and die.
Marc Spector wandered through the unbearably hot desert for an entire day, and then at night, he was pelted with a vicious sandstorm. He crawled on and on until he finally discovered the tomb they had been looking to raid. Before he could get inside, he collapsed. The tomb diggers carried him inside the tomb, and according to all witnesses, Marc Spector was dead. As he lay dead on the floor, an eerie white statue hovered over him. All of a sudden the statue’s white eyes lit up and Marc Spector got up. When he rose he all of a sudden, knew everything there was to know about the statue standing before him, even though he had never seen or heard about it in his life.
The white figure was Khonshu, one of the Egyptian Gods of the moon, and the god of vengeance. Khonshu had apparently brought Spector back to be his avatar on earth, do his will, and spread his fear and belief. Spector followed Bushman, the man who had left him for dead, to New York City in hopes of revenge. When Marc arrived in New York he created multiple identities, and made a white costume with a cape and a mask. He became Moon Knight, and he caught and subdued Bushman. He also got a girlfriend named Marlene and his mercenary buddy “Frenchie” became his pilot. Ever since then he has become the super-hero Moon Knight, and has prowled the streets at night, doing his god’s bidding and striking fear into the hearts of evildoers. He once had moon based super powers, but he lost them and they have never returned. He has crafted many weapons; such as crescent shaped moon darts and other assorted tools. Many other super heroes feel Moon Knight is mentally unstable.
More recently things have gone bad for Moon Knight and he rejected his god Khonshu. But after a while, Moon Knight prayed to his god, to give him another chance to be a hero. His god Khonshu, is now much more demanding and he follows him around, looking like a deformed Bushman, telling him what to do. Nobody else can hear Khonshu talk except Moon Knight, which makes people think he is crazy. Many signs point to the fact that Khonshu is in fact real, and not just in Moon Knight’s head. The fact that Khonshu has brought back Moon Knight from the dead three times validates Khonshu’s existence.
The way, in which Moon Knight conducts his crime fighting, makes many super heroes sick, as a lot of them end up mutilated pretty badly. To sum it up, Moon Knight is a complex character, but he is so unique and unlike any other character that he is very exciting in my opinion. Moon Knight was created in 1975 and has never been as popular as; I think he potentially could be. Moon Knight is one of top five favorite fictional characters, and I read the comic once a month, as it comes out.
