I think I finally understand Donnie Darko!!! Does anybody own the Director's Cut version?? It makes it a lot easier to understand!! I think it's theme revolves around cause and effect!

I mostly understand the moive. Like if you stop the movie and read everything at the begging of each chapter it tells you what is about to happen in the movie.

Exactly!! Those chapters feed you even more info!! Like there's this one part where it says something about the person being able to control water and fire right?? Well check it out; Donnie floods the school (water) and burn's the pedophile's house (fire)!! There's more where that came from, man!!

Now, Donnie's found alive in the beginning because of Frank therefore not getting smashed by the airplane engine; cause and effect.
Then Frank commands Donnie to flood the school. The next day he's waiting for the bus but is informed that there is no school. He walks and meets Gretchen. If Frank hadn't told him to flood the school, Donnie would've never met Gretchen; cause and effect.
Next, Frank commands Donnie to burn the pedophile's house. Because of that the lady who who was in charge of the little girl's star search believes that it's her duty to prove the pedophile's innocence. To do that she asks Donnie's mom to take them to the airport. Because of that Donnie and his sister decide to celebrate the sister acceptance of Harvard without any parental guidance; major cause and effect. If this would've never happened Frank would've never run over Gretchen therfore making Donnie shoot him and making him a Manipulated Dead, therefore starting this all over again I guess...

That's my theory but there's so much more to it than that! Cellar door, du ex machina, Donnie laughing towards the end, much, much more...

Good job, man!! He was afraid of dying alone and in the end he had to so no one else's life would be in danger!! He probably messed with the engine so it could go back in time and smash him!! That's why he was laughing!!! And wait!!! Telekinesis!! He messed with the engine with telekinisis!!! Wow!!
